I am a research associate in the Binaural Hearing and Speech Lab, currently under postdoctoral training. My primary research interest is to look at how binaural hearing benefits people who have single-sided deafness or deafness in both ears, and have been using cochlear implants (CIs) to restore functional hearing, by reducing their listening effort. I will be using different techniques that measure brain responses and physiology as objective assessments of listening effort.
Before joining the lab, I did my BS and MS (2009.09 – 2014.07) in underwater acoustics at Northwestern Polytechnical University (Xi’an, China). My major focused on underwater acoustic signal processing. I did my PhD (2014.08 – 2018.2) in medical bionics at the University of Melbourne (Melbourne, Australia). My research project used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to look at the cortical speech processing in cochlear implant users.
