Ruth Litovsky, Ph.D. - Director
Ruth Litovsky, our lab director, was honored with the prestigious Silver Medal Award from the Acoustical Society of America in the area of Psychological and Physiological Acoustics. The Silver Medal Award is presented to individuals for contributions to the advancement of science, engineering, or human welfare through the application of acoustic principles, or through research …
Lab director Ruth Litovsky and BHSL post-doc Xin Zhou were interviewed by the Waisman Center news team to talk about the work our lab is doing with functional near-infrared spectroscopy. Check out the article here!
Ruth Litovsky, our lab director, was honored at the 2021 meeting of the American Auditory Society with the Carhart Memorial Lecture. The Carhart Award is the American Auditory Society’s recognition of those whose current research is having a significant impact on auditory science and clinical practice, with the promise of continued impact over the rest …
Ela Warnecke, a post-doc in the BHSL, was featured in a Waisman Center news article for her work on auditory motion perception in cochlear implant users. The project is titled “The impacts of temporal fine structure and signal envelope on auditory motion perception,” and was recently published in PLOS ONE in collaboration with BHSL post-doc …
Ellen Peng, a research associate in the BHSL, was awarded the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research Editor’s Award for her dissertation work with Lily Wang on listening effort in native and nonnative listeners due to noise, reverberation, and talker foreign accent during speech perception. A copy of the award winning work can be …
Emily Burg, an Audiology/Ph.D. graduate student in the lab was awarded the Alvin L. Berman & Ruth Bleier Memorial Research Award on behalf of the Friends of Waisman Center. The award acknowledges outstanding research achievement at the Waisman Center in conjunction with the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center.
Senior PhD student Jasenia Hartman has been awarded the “Diversity Supplement Award” by the National Institutes of Health. The money from the award will help fund Jasenia’s research, which aims to investigate the impact of synchronized cochlear implant stimulation on speech understanding in noise, and the extent to which visual cues enhance speech understanding through …
Medical student Gabe Sobczak was awarded the American Otological Society Research Foundation Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship provides one-year of research funding for medical students, medical residents, or PhD candidates. Gabe will be investigating cortical representations of binaural hearing and spatial release from masking in normal hearing listeners and listeners with simulated single-sided deafness. Congratulations Gabe!
Liberty Moore, and undergraduate student in the BHSL, was awarded the Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowship which gives undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake their own research with UW–Madison faculty. The proposed project is titled “Using optical imaging to investigate auditory attention in cochlear implant listeners with single-sided deafness,” and will investigate how these individuals distribute …
Sean Anderson, a senior PhD student in the lab, has had is F31 Grant titled “Mechanisms that underlie poorer binaural outcomes in patients with asymmetrical hearing and bilateral cochlear implants” recommended for funding by the NIDCD. NIH training grants are extremely competitive and this is an exceptional accomplishment. The money from the grant will fund …
